The St. Agnes Players will perform Shakespeare in December. Read the story along
with the complete cast list. As a bonus the Herald has an interview with one of
the dramatis personae conducted by one of our resident theater and movie critics.
By Harriet Vasser, New London Herald Theater and Film Critic
New London has a reason to rejoice because an anonymous patron has donated funds
for the St. Agnes Players to mount its 2005-2006 season of musicals and plays.
Due to budget restraints St. Agnes has had to do without its full course of
musical and drama productions for the last two years. Mrs. Proctor, the head
of the drama department, announced last Tuesday that the St. Agnes Players will
mount a production of William Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing. The
show will go up December 8, 9, 10 and 11, 2005 at 7:30pm each evening. The cast
list is as follows:
Alexandra DeAngelis as Hero
Jeremy Getz as Don John
Eric Barrows as Dogberry
David DeGeneres as Friar Francis
Leo Beauvais as Leonato
Anastasia Bucher as Ursula
Albert D’Aubigne as Verges
Lacy Franks as Margaret
Stephen Caldwell as Don Pedro
Xavier Trotter as Conrade
Denise Caldwell as Beatrice
Arthur Conley as Balthasar
David Burkes as Antonio
Everett Hargrove as Benedick
Simon Finlay as Borachio
Charles Everett as Claudio
Alexandra DeAngelis, who is to play Hero, was asked to give the New London
Herald a quick interview.

Alex: Call me Alex, please. I’ve been interested in acting
since I got interested in watching works of Shakespeare on film. I get to see
plays in the community theaters in the area when studies permit. A few years ago
I decided to take a turn on the boards after enjoying trying my hand at role playing
games. I did a good job and tried out for a role here and there. Before that it
was grade school plays.
NLS: So you play role playing games?
Alex: Yes. And the playing of these games has stimulated my creativity.
I found myself trying harder in school so I could understand the scripts I was
reading better.
NLS: Well, we here at the paper are excited that St. Agnes is
going to mount a production of Much Ado About Nothing. What do you think you will
bring to the role of Hero?
Alex: A girlish charm? A strong sense of self? Something in-between?
You and your readership will have to find out in December.
NLS: Fair enough, Alex. I hope the wait will be worth it.
Alex: It will
