The Friends of the Hollowmarsh Nature Reserve
will soon be holding their 17th annual open-house and census. This event will occur the week of October 22nd
through October 30th.
Donated baked goods will be sold to raise funds for the ongoing costs of
maintaining the reserve. A raffle will
also be held, with tickets costing $5 each, and 50% of the proceeds going to
the winner and the remainder helping to upgrade the signs and markers within
the park over the next year. The staff
and experienced volunteers will show newcomers how the census is taken to help
keep track of the various animal and plant populations within the reserve. This allows us to better protect the
creatures and environment of the reserve.
We welcome anyone who is willing to help us help restore the balance of
nature in our local community. We will
accept donations of baked goods and nature oriented artwork the week before and
the week of the event, which will then be sold at the event to help raise
funds. We
also accept monetary,
equipment, and material donations throughout the year. The second
weekend of the event, children (and adults) are encouraged to dress up
in Halloween costumes, to show their support of the mystical aspects
and spirits of nature.
