1)
What's going on here?
Welcome to New London Everlasting
PBP, is way to play Visionary Entertainment's game
The Everlasting online. Here, you can Submit
A Character for play in the game, Add
Your Own Material to the house rules we use here
and Play
Your Character on the forums after they have been
approved by one of our Guides.
We are always happy to get new players, and even if
you aren't familiar with the system, don't own any
of the books, or are just looking for a taste of what
the game is like, you're welcome to play here so long
as you make sure to read the free Basic
Training file.
2)
How does PBP work?
A Play-by-Post or PBP game starts when a new scene
is started. This will happen when someone, they can
be a player or a Guide, creates a new thread in the
appropriate part of the forum listing the name of
the location where the scene is taking place and possibly
other information such as a date or a scene name.
The start of the thread will detail the setting for
the scene, and give a narrative dictating what is
happening. After this, other players can decide if
their characters will react to what has happened.
Reasons for interaction include being in the same
location (mostly it is decided by the player if their
character is or is likely to be present, although
this is not always the case), but there are other
reasons as well.
After this, the scene progresses as other characters
act and react to what is happening. Once the scene
is over, characters may move on to other threads,
detailing other scenes and other events.
For more details, see our Posting
Guidelines.
3)
What is The Everlasting?
The Everlasting is a roleplaying game set in the Secret
World. New players are welcome to take part here,
and will receive as much support as they need from
the Guides and other players.
The bare minimum needed to begin play as a Mortal
or Fantast is to have read the Basic
Training file which is available for download
from the website and serves as a good introduction
to the game.
For playing anything other than a Mortal or a Fantast,
it is highly recommended that you purchase one of
the four core books. These are available in
hard-copy, direct from Visionary Entertainment
or in
PDF via DriveThruRPG.
4)
Where do I submit characters?
You can add your character to our database for one
of our Guides to approve for play by using the Character
Database section of the website, or by clicking
here.
5)
How do I post in a roleplaying thread?
The forum is split into different sections, each representing
an area of the city, each of these areas contains
posts with the location name listed in the first post,
or in the title.
If you would like to respond to a post, because your
character is likely to be in the area, or is already
in the area, then you may do so as long as the thread
is open to other characters.
For more details on how to post, see our Posting
Guidelines.
6)
What Gentes do you accept?
Currently we accept Mortals, Fantasts and Mortal Magicians
as well as the three main Gentes from The
Book of the Unliving: Vampires, Revenants (excluding
Ankou) and Ghuls.
Gentes from the other three core books, as well as
Osirians, will be made available for play just as
soon as the game is established properly.
7)

) What are the rules on Magick and Spells?
Any characters apart from Mortal's and Fantasts may
buy Magick at any time. If you wish to buy Magick
at character generation, you may spend your Preternature
Points as if they were Experience Points for the purpose
of purchasing Magick.
In addition, for every dot in Lore a character possesses,
they are granted one automatic Spell. Additional Spells
may be bought as normal.
9)
How do I make a character?
You can make a character using our Character
Creation Guidelines.
Special rules for Mortals, Fantasts and Mortal Magicians
are given above, rules on character
generation for the Eldritch can be found in all four
Everlasting core books.
If you need help submitting your character, please
see Question 4 above and Question
10 below.
10)
How do I get approved for play / What are these special
icons?
The special icon's you see between a characters name
and their avatar are specially created Rank icons
assigned to those characters that have been approved
for play, showing you what they are.
Once you have created your character and submitted
them to our database via the Online
Character Creation Form, you need to be approved
for play by a Guide before you are allowed to post
on the In Character threads.
When you create your character, the Guides will automatically
recieve an email telling them that you are waiting
to play, they will look your character over and may
recommend changes for you to make.
Once you have reached an agreement with the Guides,
they will approve your character for play, you will
be granted a Gente-specific icon and you are free
to post on the In Character sections of the forum.
11)
What are your rules on 'homebrewed' Bloodlines/Magick/Preternature
etc?
'Homebrewed' material is permitted here. You can submit
material such as Bloodlines, Magick, Spells and even
new locations via the User
Submitted Material Database.
Once you have submitted your material, a Guide will
look it over, make any suggestions they feel are necessary,
and then approve it for play, at which point it will
appear in the Approved Database
along with other material of its type.
Using the database, you can submit material either
for you own personal use only, or material that is
open for other players to use, for example, if you
have created a Bloodline, creating a Scion of that
Bloodline.
12)
Where can I find information about the city?
Information about the city of New London, including
important locations, can be found in The
City section of this website.
Information on the Eldritch of New London, including
what all the Gentes are up to, and a list of important
NPC's, can be found in The Faces
section of this website.
13)
What are your rules regarding trading DP for XP?
At character generation, and at any other time, you
are not allowed to 'trade in' Destiny Points for Experience.
This is a House Rule to ensure that both Destiny Points
and Experience Points are valued for their own unique
worth.
14)
How do I roll dice / draw cards?
The game here at New London works on a system of drawing
tarot cards rather than rolling dice. It's really
not that complicated, and each card has a value listed
below it incase you find it confusing.
We have two kinds of card-drawing system here, the
first is the Minor Arcana
Draw, you should use this in order to resolve
challenges the same way you would use dice and may
use it either where you think it is appropriate, or
when you are asked to do so by a Guide.
The second kind of card-draw is the Major
Arcana Draw. This can be used once ever six months.
When you use it, it will add three Major Arcana to
your character sheet. You can then 'spend' these in
play to effect the course that the story is taking.
Cards should be spent to affect the story in a manner
sympathetic to their meaning. Major Arcana meanings
are presented in each of the four core books, but
there are also several very good websites that will
help you if you don't have access to the books.
15)
How do I handle private scenes?
Generally, playing out private scenes away from the
eyes of other players is discouraged. Instead, players
are encouraged to conduct as much of their gaming
as possible on the boards, and with more private scenes
that, for example, involve some characters plotting
against others, players that aren't involved are expected
to keep their out-of-character knowledge out-of-character,
and if they can't, not to read the thread at all.
Evidence of out of character knowledge being used
repeatedly in-character will result in warnings, loss
of XP, and even result in the character being unsanctioned
or deleted if the warnings are not heeded.
However, it's understood that certain scenes are not
suitable for an open forum, and such scenes should
be conducted over private message with the other player(s)
involved. Examples of unsuitable scenes include those
that contain any offensive, sexual or overly violent
behaviour.
In rare circumstances when the Guides decide that
larger private scenes need to be conducted, private
forums will be created that will be hidden from all
players but those involved in the scene in question.
16)
How is XP (Experience) handled?
Experience Points will be awarded by the Guides at
the end of each scene.
When a scene, whether it is run by a Guide, or by
another player, reaches it's natural conclusion, the
Guides will Lock the thread to prevent any more interaction
(although 99.99% of the time there'll be no interaction
left, as everything will have reached a conclusion
and the characters will have moved on), and then allocate
Experience Points to each character that took part.
Experience Point awards will be judged on a number
of factors including the amount of effect the character
had on the scene, what kind of an effect that was,
and also other things such as quality of descriptive
work etc.
Also, please note that we will be using the Experience
Costs from the first three books and not
those from Book of the Fantastical. For more details,
please see the House Rules.
17)
How many characters can I play?
Currently, you can play one Mortal/Fantast/Mortal
Magician, and one Book
of the Unliving character. As the other Books
open, you'll be able to play one additional character
from each of them, and the Mortal restriction may
be put up to two.
Please note, however, that 'tag-teaming' characters
is not allowed, and if it's found out, it will result
in warnings, loss of XP, and, if the warning's go
unheeded, in one or more of the offending characters
being Unsanctioned and/or deleted.
Overall, it is suggested that if you play more than
one character, that you avoid interaction between
the two of them. In the interests of good roleplay,
some 'pairs' of characters, such as a couple, will
sometimes be permitted for play by one person, but
in all other cases, interaction between two characters
with the same player should be discouraged.
