The Ghuls

New London’s Ghuls are based predominantly within the Subterania of New London’s Fountain District. The fire that ravaged the district in the late 1800’s left many houses derelict, and that fact that the subsequent rebuilding of the city took place over the ruins, leaving an extensive network of abandoned streets, foundations and even houses below ground-level is a fact not overlooked by many Eldritch. In fact, some even believe that the Ghuls had a hand in the fire, and in the rebuilding that followed it. It does, after all, seem to be a very fortunate coincidence for them.

From the Fountain District, extensive Ghul-dug tunnels link the substreets with the Bon Espoir cemetery and even run all the way out to Fountaine House outside the city.

The Ghul population of New London is a little higher than most cities due to the vast graveyards and open vaults at the outskirts of the city. The race populations are around normal, but for a slight increase in the number of Faitors and Vetala, thought to be a result of the extensive learning of the head of the colony, Sebastian Fountaine.

Sebastian has lead the colony since the mid 1800’s, rising quickly to power after his metastasis because of his sharp wit, cunning, and Machiavellian intelligence. He tolerates little subordination from his underlings, and many a Ghul known to disagree with him has been known to simply disappear. In the long run, Sebastian is a master of the Secret Arts, and few will risk challenging him.

It was as a direct result of his leadership that the Ghuls formed an alliance with the Court of Night only a few years ago. It’s not known by most Ghuls exactly why Sebastian decided to join the Court, or on what terms they are accepted by the Revenants and Vampires, but most know that, in addition to being the leader of the colony, Sebastian also holds the title of Dauphin of the Court of Night in New London.

In reality, it doesn’t make much difference to many of the Ghuls of the city whether they are allied with the Court of Night or not. They simply continue to go about their business, avoiding the Court and hoping that it avoids them, but times are changing, and soon, the Ghuls of New London must change with them. Like it . . . or not.
