Homo
Alpha
Of course, there are and always will
be those who see enough of the Secret World to decide
that they don’t like it. Some realise that no
matter how far they go or how tightly they squeeze
their eyes shut, once they know that it’s there
there’s no escaping it. Broadly convened from
a desire to protect humanity from the danger and horror
waiting in the shadows, Homo-Alpha is an umbrella
for Fantasts who have a grudge against the supernatural,
and won’t stop in their quest for revenge, justice,
answers or whatever it is that drives them.
However, the organisation has been around for long
enough to let its morals slip. Although they, universally,
agree that the Secret World is something that our
mortal world would be better without, they have come
to understand that simply lashing out at it will not
make it go away. Indeed, what leadership there is
seems to have come to some private understanding that
there simply is no making it go away, full stop. And
so they’ve begun to lean more towards a pruning
of the tree, rather than ripping it out by the roots.
There are, after all, degrees of evil. And degrees
of temptation.
Seeing itself as something of an urban clandestine
army, throughout the years it has modelled itself
on the popular Romantic ideals of one. From the posses
of the Old West, to the gangster families of the 20’s,
to the terrorist cells of modern times, they seem
to outsiders to sometimes hover somewhere between
the comical, and children aping their favourite books
and films. But more than anything, its members seem
to be committed and driven, making and breaking whatever
deals they feel are necessary. To those in their sights,
they can be very unpredictable and dangerous. Their
main strength lies in its member’s willingness
to help each other out on whatever quest they are
on, knowing that the favour will be returned.
Quite how much they have become involved in the political
machinations over the years is a mystery, but there
have been times when the organisation has moved as
a whole towards a single, defined purpose. And that,
of course, begs the question of why they have not,
in their history, made a unified move against the
Court of the Night. A simple question of, ‘better
the devil you know’, or perhaps something a
little more sinister. . .
