The
2002 Comittee
In December 2002 the growing tensions
within the 1816 Society finally came to a head. Those
that felt the organisation was stuffy, detached, backwards
and stuck in some sort of pre-Civil War fantasy met
in secret, and decided to break to form their own
organisation. Unlike its parent, this new organisation
would by dynamic, pro-active and forward looking.
Unlike its parent, this organisation would more than
happily get its hands dirty.
Since then, the 2002 Committee has been careering
down its own path, rushing headlong towards whatever
the future may hold. They enthusiastically have embraced
technology, rigging up computers to process any information
they can throw at it, rigging into their computers
anything they think will help. Instead of waiting
for the Secret World to come to them, they go to it,
drag it back to the old warehouse that serves as their
base of operations and find out what makes it tick.
Membership of the Committee is small, but growing.
Although selective in whom they choose to initiate,
and as deeply secretive as their parent organisation,
they look for aptitudes and natural inclinations rather
than learning or some proven commitment. If you don’t
go out prepared enough, or give up half-way though,
well, own your own head be it.
Needless to say, this attitude has drawn the close
attention of the Court. The 1816 Society is, for the
most part, largely harmless, but the 2002 Committee
has a growing reputation for interfering and pushing
in all the wrong places. Rumours of a new reanimate
start circulating, and the Court finds itself in a
race with the Committee to find it and decide what
to do with it. They still seem to be undecided about
how to deal with the Committee, but for the time being
have made the important people among them aware of
the need for greater discretion, and willing to wait
to see if the Committee will tear itself apart with
the force of its own enthusiasm.
